Chelsea midfielder Romeo Lavia has been ruled out for another month following his latest injury setback, adding to the club’s growing fitness concerns.

Recall the Belgian limped off just four minutes into the Champions League draw against Qarabag, leaving manager Enzo Maresca “ashamed” at how often his £58 million signing has been sidelined since arriving from Southampton in 2023.

Another spell on the sidelines

According to BBC Sport, Lavia will miss Premier League clashes against Burnley, Arsenal, Leeds and Bournemouth, as well as Champions League ties versus Barcelona and Atalanta.

The 21-year-old has made only seven appearances this season and just 29 in total for Chelsea due to persistent injuries.

Maresca: “We feel ashamed”

“It’s not a recurrence of his hamstring issue; it looks like a quad injury,” Maresca said after the Qarabag game. “We feel very ashamed, especially for him, because he’s not been fit for a long time.”

Lavia’s record paints a bleak picture, 10 injuries, 568 days out, and 88 matches missed. He remains yet to complete a full 90 minutes for Chelsea. While teammates like Reece James have overcome similar struggles, Lavia’s recovery remains uncertain.
